    Just like you mix together Charleston, eight-count Lindy Hop (Whips and Circles), and six-count East Coast Swing, you’ll learn how to transition smoothly into and out of Balboa–regardless of tempo and/or music style–and prepare you for more Lollies, Toss-Outs, Out-And-Ins, and other staples of Bal and Bal Swing.  You’ll fine-tune your footwork, focus on finesse, and create a better connection with your partner, the music, and with the dance floor itself.  No previous Balboa experience necessary; suitable for intermediate-level students (should be familiar with six- and eight-count patterns).

Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothes and shoes that stay on your foot securely. PARTNER REQUIRED FOR THIS CLASS; recommended for intermediate-level students.

    Boogie Woogie is an offshoot of Lindy Hop that developed with the change in musical styles from Big Band to early Rock & Roll and Boogie Woogie piano.  The dance typically involves quick footwork, playful turns, and creative patterns that reflect the improvisational spirit of Boogie Woogie music. Lily and David will teach you how to transform your swing dancing into this beautiful style. Suitable for intermediate-level students.

    You know the basics of Collegiate Shag, and now it’s time to expand your skill set. Work on the lead-and-follow mechanism of the unique rhythms of Shag; the momentum of Shag turns; and how momentum is generated so you can incorporate all the moves you know from Lindy Hop and other dances into Shag, and some classic Shag patterns as well.

    One of Lindy Hop legend Frankie Manning’s signature moves was the eight-count Promenade with Pecking. You’ll review this classic move, and then give it a brand-new twist and maybe a turn or two! Students should be comfortable with eight-count Lindy patterns; while familiarity with Promenades is helpful for this class as you explore different variations, it is not required. Suitable for intermediate-level students.
