We’re celebrating World Lindy Hop Day and commemorating the birthday of Lindy Hop Legend FRANKIE MANNING with a free swing dance on Freedom Plaza! We’ll do the Shim Sham at 2pm, 2:45pm, and 3:30pm, with plenty of time for social dancing in between. Don’t know the Shim Sham? Some Gottaswing instructors will be teaching it in their intermediate-level classes the week of May 12 and we’re opening up to walk-ins, details coming soon. Every year, Lindy Hoppers all over the world gather to commemorate the anniversary of Frankie Manning’s birth on May 26, 2014. The tradition began with Frankie 99 in 2013 as Hoppers all over the world learned a dance routine, and continues every year in some way, shape or form. We’ve done public dances at the World War II Memorial and the Jefferson Memorial, and are really thrilled to add Freedom Plaza to our list. Situated on Pennsylvania Avenue, NW between 13th and 14th Streets, we’re treated to a fantastic vista bookended by The White House on one end and the U.S. Capitol on the other. How majestic!
