BACK IN TIME Lindy Hop Workshops with NAOMI & PETER in the Ballroom Back Room
SAVE THE DATE. We’re going BACK IN TIME for a wonderful weekend of dancing and Lindy Hop workshops, welcoming special guests NAOMI UYAMA & PETER STROM.
In hometown Washington, DC, Naomi discovered Lindy Hop in 1997 (with Gottaswing classes!). By the time she graduated high school she had been hand-picked to dance on stage with Aretha Franklin, and had won numerous national-level contests. Today, she is a top performer and competitor, and has collected dozens of titles at competitions including the US Open Swing Dance Championship and International Lindy Hop Championship. She travels the world teaching, and singing with her band Naomi & Her Handsome Devils–she’ll be singing with the band this weekend too!
Peter is one of the most dedicated and well-traveled instructors on the Lindy Hop scene, with a sense of humor that is matched by the clarity and care he takes with students. Since his start in 1998, he has taught at international dance camps from Australia to South Korea to Sweden. He is a sought-after DJ and Master of Ceremonies, was a member of the renowned Lindy Hop team the Silver Shadows, and is the founder of Uptown Swing in his Minneapolis home town.
Together, Naomi and Peter are one of the top international teaching couple on the Lindy scene. They love teaching and traveling together and consider it a true privilege to spend time sharing Lindy Hop all over the world. We are THRILLED to have them.
REGISTRATION OPENS MONDAY, JULY 27
11:30am-12:30pm: Beautiful Basics – let’s work on making your basic feel and look good.
12:30-1:15pm: LUNCH
1:15-2:15pm: Simple to Spectacular – Let’s take steps and build them up for lots of options from easy to complex.
2:30-3:30pm: Swingout Deep Dive – Peter and Naomi will share technique and pointers to explore your swingout.
3:30-4pm: Practice time to DJ music
Students should have a working knowledge of six- and eight-count patterns or have taken at least one beginner session with Gottaswing.
