Welcome to the official “BOOGIE WOOGIE BUGLE BOY” page for participants in the July 4 NATIONAL INDEPENDENCE DAY PARADE.  

Gottaswing is delighted to once again be invited to participate in the annual July 4 parade, this year celebrating our nation’s 250th anniversary. Costumed dancers are welcome to walk the parade route, waving to the crowd and dancing as the pace of the parade allows. We will be performing the routine at the reviewing stand along the parade route. There is a new route this year, beginning at 3rd Street and Constitution Avenue NW in front of the Capitol, takes a left turn, and then heads down Independence Avenue, NW. Parade steps off at 10:30am (before it gets too hot!).

Robert and Caitlin will host a JULY 4 PARADE PREP PRACTICE SESSION on Tuesday, June 30 at Cherrydale Volunteer Fire Department. Routine Review 7-8pm will drill, drill, drill, plus go over best practice for parade procedures. Air Steps and Groovy Tricks, 8-9pm, teaches some easy-to-incorporate air steps and groovy tricks to amuse the crowd. See more on the SPECIALTY CLASSES page.

WHERE CAN YOU LEARN THE ROUTINE?

This short routine can be easily learned by intermediate-level dancers in just one-two classes. Stay tuned for a list of where/when you can learn the routine.

PATRIOTIC COSTUMING REQUIRED

This year we’re deviating from our usual 1950s poodle skirt-bowling shirt-saddle shoe theme, instead going with red/white/blue American flag patriotic theme. You may add accessories like red, or white, or blue, or American flag scarves around your neck or in your hair. Please run your costume choices past Debra@gottaswing.com if you want to deviate from any of these. Please, no florals or patterns that are not July 4/patriotic themed.

FOLLOWS will wear skirts, tops, and white shoes, sneakers are fine
Skirts can be red, or white, or blue solid; or solid background with stars. Skirts should be knee length (no minis!)
Tops should be solid and coordinate with your skirt, such as white top with blue skirt.
White shoes, sneakers are fine
Samples

LEADERS will wear color-block bowling shirts, black pants, black or white shoes, sneakers are fine
