Saturday, August 18
An opportunity for the Gottaswing teaching staff to break away from our usual beginner and intermediate curriculum and offer some special classes at Reston Sport and Health Club.

CLASSES ARE $15/advance; $20/door if space permits. Pre-registation is closed; space is available for all classes except Aerials 101 with Sue and Gary.

STUDIO A

12:15-1:15pm—Aerials 101 with Sue and Gary
Flashy drops, leans and simple lifts for the fearful first-timer—but don't worry, we'll be gentle! All levels; you MUST register with a partner.

1:30-2:30pm—How to Dance in a Jam Circle with Sue and Gary
You've seen them and you love to watch them, but you haven't had the nerve to jump into one. Here's a Jam Circle Game that is fun and great for bringing out those performance skills you didn't know you had! You'll get basics on how and what to do, help you fine tune what you already know, or add some new stuff to your "same old-same old." Then we'll practice together and help you get up enough nerve to jump into the fun! You'll be "jammin' in no time! Note: Aerials not  mandatory. Intermediate/advanced level.

2:45-3:45pm—Fundamentals Of Balboa with Dabe and Janelle
Balboa is much more than a dance step; it involves a completely different way of connecting with your partner: through your BODY. Whether you're looking to learn the basic footwork or improve your existing Balboa technique, this workshop will teach the Balboa "Best Practices." Come and get a head start on David Rehm's world-class Balboa series, which starts August 20. All levels.

4-5pm—How To Stop "Doing Moves" And Start  Dancing! with Dabe and Janelle
We've all been there: We've learned (and have likely forgotten) more moves than we can count, and we've started to fall into a rut. But guess what? Dancing isn't about doing move after move! Dancing is about feeling the music and enjoying the connection with your partner. Dancing is about improvisation and being "in the  moment." Learn how to "Dance Outside The Box"—you'll never dance the same way again! All levels; students should be comfortable with eight-count patterns.

STUDIO B

1:30-2:30pm—Traditional Aerial Moves with Tom and Debra
Know how every time you mention to someone that you like to swing dance they immediately demand you flip your partner? Here's your chance to learn 3-4 traditional aerials that you've been admiring in the jams for years! All levels; you MUST register with a partner.

2:45-3:45pm—Styling: Dips, Tricks, Spins and Turns with Michael and Poppy
Spice up your dancing with some simple but flashy moves. Learn to become more musical in your  dancing by adding the moves and techniques you'll learn in this class. Intermediate level; students MUST have a good understanding of basic Lindy principles. Partner not required as all material is socially leadable/followable.

4-5pm—Fusion with Michael and Poppy
Lindy Hop came from Charleston and other dances of the early 1900s, then developed with varied  influences on from there into West Coast, DC Hand Dancing and Hustle, taking ideas from many different styles of dance. Now, it's time to take ideas from different eras and styles (Salsa, Tango, WCS, basic jazz figures) and create a fusion to incorporate into your Lindy. Intermediate level; involves close contact with partners in the normal rotation of the class.
